So i was torn between doing a planted setup with a single blue ram (which ive had before and loved) or some other type of cichlids....so i ultimately decided on shell dwellers....i got 2 yellowfin ocellatus...and all i have to say is that these are the spunkiest most interesting, and CUTE fish I have EVER gad by far. i have 2 in a 10 gallon....i dont wanna overstock...thats like 2 in. of fish for a 10 gallon...thats the way to go. i have set up some caves with holey rocks and shells and they seem to be loving the tank...ill post pics soon....maybe ill upgrade to a premium member again like i used to be.. im glad to be back. ![]() ~*~ Caviar? no thanks! ~*~ |

I have 1 male and 2 female ocellatus in a 10 gal, fem1 has 8 juviniles in toe. And fem2 has just unveiled her new fry this week. I agree with you these guys are cute and interesting especally when breeding. My setup has large rocks whth holes through arranged so there is an internal cave structure along the rear of the tank, with flat slate peices arranged like walls or fences to distinguish territorys. And java fern and java moss on the rocks and fore ground. Have fun ![]() |
