I have a 55 gallon tank with only 6 african cichlids in it. they are all around 3 to 4 inches and my friend has to get rid of his african cichlids as soon as possible and his are about 2 to 3 inches so i was wondering if in the amount of space i have in my 55 if these new cichlids would fit and be able to hold their own there are only 4 of them. and i was planning on changing everything around like a whole new setup and the bigger cichlids would be comming out anyway so if i put all ten of them in there at the same time with a new setting and enviorment would the little ones get killed? if you could help or been in this position information would be helpful thanks chizunk

It would help to advise you if you would give the species you currently have and then the type you want to add to the tank. Also, rearranging the tank would help as it would help to eliminate the territories already staked out by the current occupants.

As Jim already said we need to know what kind of cichlids you have, and what type your friend has...it is possible that all will go well, especially if you do the rearranging so that noone has any territories of their own. But you have to make sure that they are compatible! For instance you don't want to have 2 male Pseudotropheus lombardoi in a tank thatsmall because they will end up fighting to the end...and there are several other simple things like this that you will have to check for.

Let us know what you have, and what your friend has and then we can help...
