I was bad today and bought some fish I like the fish from this lfs but their labelling (fish IDs) often leave a lot to be desired. I'd like to verify what they are and if they can be sexed from the pics. If not, how are each sexed and at what age/size?

I've done a lot of reading online and in books but any other handy or important info about these fish from people who have kept them would be appreciated as well.

First is Geophagus jurupari. 'Geo' is ~1" long, very friendly and curious. In his/her temporary tank (s)he has been adopted by my small yo-yo loaches.

Next is Thorichthys aureus , which I've seen called blue flash and blue red top. ~2-3" long with nice coloring.

And finally Geophagus brasiliensis , pearl cichlid. ~1.5-2" long, good color, seems a bit shy.

very nice looking fish. I don't know how to sex the jurapari and the only way I know to sex a brasiliensis is that males will get a nuchal hump.

I can't say 100% on the Thorichthys. It does look like T. aureum but I wouldn't rule out T. maculipinnis either. Either way I'd say male.

I also wonder if the Geophagus brasiliensis isn't actually Gymnogeophagus gymnogenys [/font]

well I'm not very experienced with Geophagus and Gymnogeophagus species so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that it could be gymnogenus. However it does look like a brasiliensis to me. plus I'm pretty sure brasiliensis are much more common that gymnogenus.

It's a White Cloud Mountain Minnow (er, not that I'm Theresa, but they're pretty distinctive and you can all laugh if she corrects me )
