Some questions to help narrow down the selections: Is your water naturally soft and acidic or hard and basic? Do you prefer color, unusual behavior, ease of breeding, personality, interaction with you, interaction with each other, or some combination of the above? Do you want to keep plants? If you were hoping to keep other (non-cichlid) fish with them, what non-cichlids might you want? -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I like fish that are colorful, have a personality and have unusual behavior. I'd like to keep real plants. My main choice of fish is a chiclid and what ever else you recommend could go with them would be nice. I hope that that's enough info. |

Pretty much all are colorful, most are hardy, and they all have unique personalities (they are cichlids, after all ![]() As for other fish, I'd suggest a shoal of cories, and a large school of tetras. The dwarf cichlids I've suggested won't bother these fish, and vice versa. They also like the same type of water as the dwarfs, soft and acidic. You really should get a test kit though, so you can be sure of your water parameters. You'll need it for measuring ammonia and nitrite levels, anyways. Out of curiosity, do you already own this tank? If so, is it cycled? |

Yes I own this tank already and actually have it set up as a community tropical fish tank. When my current fish die I am planning on changing the concept of my tank ie: fish, plants, rocks etc. So i am just scouting for options. I had always liked chiclids before so i'm interested in trying to take care of some. Thanks again for your ideas. If you have anymore, please reply. ![]() |
