for cichlids like blue acaras what is normal fighting and what fighting should i watch out for. i know that cichlids are territorial and will fight

Any fighting should be considered normal, unless it's persistent. If the fights last an unreasonable amount of time something should be done to stop them, otherwise it should be fine. Also, if any injuries occur they should be separated, treated with melafix and aggression stifling actions should be taken upon reintroduction.

I find that most cichlid fighting doesn't actually involve contact. Even when being chased, the 'victim' seldom gets caught unless it wants to 'about turn'. I'd only worry if a) contact is made and is an 'unfair match'
b) one fish is constantly being harrassed by another/others

my blue acaras have become more agressive. once they were sitting at the top and one big male drilled another big male right behind the head and left a mark. should i be concerned. its already healing

How often does this happen? If repeated, then remove the aggressor
