ok, i noticed that the "male's" anal fin is wider and more fan'ish like, but the "female's" is more pointed....now im confused, everything else about the male points male, except the anal fin, and the same for the female (only in female stuff) and when i look at their vents the "female's" looks wider, and the "male's" looks thinner but im not sure if that is how you vent them

Males have the longer ray extensions (Usually their black and on the dorsal fin, the top one)

Bolivian males have longer exstensions. If you have a pic we can help you sex them.

Easiest way to sex German Blue Rams them: Females have a pink/purple/red belly. Males dont.

Which ram species are you talking about here, the Bolivian ram or the German? The two species are sexed in different ways.

Just for the record, male German rams can definitely have pink bellies. They just don't have them as often as females.

The males vent usually is thinner and more pointed than the females vent which is wide and kinda rounded. Like said earlier, Males have extensions on there dorsal and cuadal fins. I have not heard about the anal fin way of sexing them before...does anyone no if this is reliable?

I think I have a picture of my old male ram around somewhere...

ok my male ram with cuadal fin extensions...

hmm, it does appear that i do have a male and female, i went to look just to be sure and compair, and he is mia atm but i did get a look at the female, and her pectorals (i think those r the ones that hang down?) those r rounded, and his have points, her anal fin is rounded, and the such..not to boast or anything but ur male is blan compaired to my male mine is always colored up, stripes and all....on a sad note i was looking for the male and found my orange chocolate male betta:#( dead, near the botias cave his fins r reletivly the same as before, and he has a little discoloration near his head, he is also in a loose c shape im kinda mad now but.. i curious as to why the male ram is hiding and the female isnt moving far from the planted area.... their behavior has been sort of a charge, then back up, charge, then back up, sound like aggressive or breeding?..me hopes its # 2.. but if they killed my betta.....grr

I've also never heard about anal, pelvic, or pectoral fins having anything do with sexual dimorphism in either ram species. (By the way, if you're having trouble figuring out which fins are which, check this link: [link=http://fishprofiles.com/interactive/anatomy/]http://fishprofiles.com/interactive/anatomy/" style="COLOR: #808080[/link])

If your fish are both nice and colorful, and hang out together a lot, then you may well have a pair.

not to boast or anything but ur male is blan compaired to my male

Nah mine was having an off day, plus flash sort of drained him of color

The pelvic fins with points I had never noticed, but now that I think of it, my females were rounded and my males were pointed. Good catch.

Then again, that could be coincidince(sp?)

by the way the fins hanging down are the pelvic fins

I havent noticed that in mine,
What i did notice is my female rams all have
bright pink bellys when they get frisky.
Heres a comparison:
Female with eggs

Female again, note she has tail filaments,
but note most of all the bright pink belly and pink eye
spot on dorsal:

Male in breeding colors note the yellow belly:

just noticed somthing else

all the males shown have 1 spot, the females have 2! (same with mine)

maube i should go out and get another male and female they seem to more tollerate eachother than want to be with each other, should i remove the male or female and wait a week, then add them back, to see if they will pair up?...and about that pink belly, is that only with females with eggs? becasue mine has a much lighter belly, but i guess its still yellowish...oh, and both mine have the lyers on their tails, only the male has it on his dorcel too

Hi there,
I had 1 female, I thought it was a male because my big
male ram showed no interest in it and they only squabbled or paid each other no attention.
When I added 3 more BR's, 2 of the 3 are for sure females, the 3rd one i think is a male but unsure as it is the smallest one.
The big female I had that I thought was a male only laid eggs with the big male after the other females had spawned with him.
If you have space add more rams, they are awesome, do well in a group, and are a super dynamic group fish.
I have 5 now and wish I had room for more!

*Boggles mind*
VERY nice rams sneaky pete One of my females had small extensions on her caudal fin, but the males were much longer. A thing I noticed in your rams, the female has pink in her dorsal fin at the front, while your male doesnt ahve much anything but orange-ish looking color in the front.

Sneaky pete your pics make me want bolivians over blue rams now...I don't know which to choose anymore:%)
