I need someone who has excellent knowledge concerning green terrors (aequidens rivulatus) and blue acaras (aequidens pulcher)
Well as you know i have 3 baby blue acaras. But 1 does not look like the other 2. 2 have vertical striping, while the other one has faint vertical striping but a more defined horizontal black stripe. They were in with firemouths at the time, and I know what fire mouths look like, so that is not what it is in any way. Can anyone descriminate juvenile terrors and blue acaras? They are so close in patterns. Ive looked in many books, and i just cant tell. I"ll try to post pics as soon as I can, they are hard to get to stay still! Thank you!

if you can manage to get some pretty clear pics we should be able to help you figure out which ones are which.

I believe (though I could be wrong) that green terrors/gold saums have color trim on both their dorsal fin and tail while blue acaras only have the trim on the dorsal fin.

Blue Acaras have a black stripe that runs vertically through their eye and the Green terrors dont have that stripe. I havent owned these fish, but I wanted to buy some, so I was researching about how to distinguish Green Terrors from the Acara.

Jason's right about the fin colouring as well.

I would not count it out just yet. As with most all fry, they are hard to tell. And many can drasically have appearances that are not every day common among them. My best guess though, is that you have either a female there, or a very docile male. In other words, the others appear to be having some coloring up. And thus this possible female is letting them know she is just that, a female. Or, if maybe a dosile male, he is not wanting to get picked on, so he is not coloring up.

Though I may very well be wrong, hard to determine with fry and small adolescents. But IMO, I would wait it out, and see what comes of it. After all, it cannot hurt to wait it out right now, because as they get older, you will definitely be able to tell the difference.

That is true and it was what i was considering anyway, letting them grow up a bit and letting the colors come out to define themselves a bit better.
