Nah, I wouldn't try it. A single oscar should probably get 75 gallons to itself, and the blue acara would be a problem. It would just add waste to the tank, and would probably get messed up by the oscar, since blue acaras don't get nearly as large.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I disagree. I'd say go for it. Oscars have a reputation for being aggressive fish but the ones I've kept have always been really gentle and only hurt fish they could fit in their mouths. I've even kept oscars with Gouramis with no problems. I'd say if you have one of each in a 75 you'd be fine.

Go for it! I have had an oscar with a blue acara without any problems in about the same size tank.

Oscars have a reputation for being aggressive fish

Actually this isn't true. On average oscars usually aren't aggressive and are only sometimes moderately territorial and this will usually be when there are 2 males together or a mating pair.

On to the question at hand...I think you'd be ok with the oscar and blue acara in a 75. I have never used Fluval filters...what is the turnover rate for the 404? Make sure to keep on top of the water changes. I'd do 30-40% weekly until the oscar gets to around 6-8" and then I'd recommend 50-60%.

Jason If you continue to read the rest of my original post you will see that I am trying to say that the reputation is not fitting and that I found them to be very gentle and personable fish. They are only aggressive towards fish they can fit in their mouths.

I was trying to make a joke with the statement of "they're only aggressive towards things they can fit in their mouths"... Next time I'll put a smiley face next to it.
