hi everyone,i have a problem in one of my comunity cichlid tanks,my two tiger oscars are gettin BIG now, well my other two albino oscars havent grown anywhere near as fast,so my tigers are a fair bit bigger, the problem is my two albinos are gettin picked on by my two tigers and my blue acara is also having a go too,but this problem ONLY happens when its been ligths out for a while, during the day when the lights on both my albinos will have a go back and they actully can look after themself, but at night they run away, stay in the corner, the other night one was floating on its side,(not dead or hurt)thats how bad it was gettin when my tiger came near it,also last night they were splashing around that bad that they broke my thermometer, after that i put a divider in the tank untill today.sory about the long post guys, can anyone help me or any info would be great.

How big is your tank? i mean you have 4 Oscars, you need like a 200 gallon tank for them to be ok? if you don't have that i can understand that they are getting cranky. What else is in there? what are the sizes of your oscars?

I can immediately say you need to get the albinos into their own tank and it's most likely that space is the issue here. Pls correct me if I am wrong.

Using the magic calculators that translates your tank dimensions into a 120 US gal tank. I think you need to find different arrangement for some of the fish...

I can't speak for the acara.

Oscars require 55 gallons apiece MINIMUM..

Your 2 albinos should be separated from the 2 more aggressive oscars.

Sorry you're having troubles... At least you asked in here quickly. And have the chance to do something, before it's too late..

If you cannot get another tank (you'd have to cycle it first too) or find another home for them right away...
Maybe you can make a temporary separator from either thick plastic mesh at a craft shop.. Or eggcrate sheet trimmed to size, and bricks or large stones holding it in place.

I have also used styrofoam sheeting (new and clean) in an emergency, and poked several small holes in it to allow at least some water movement thru (and top an inch under the water surface. Key word here is temporary.

Good luck

im still waiting on some more info on tank sizes, but i made a divider today, just bought some clear perspecs from bunnings, trimed it to size with a circler saw, smothed off the edges with some wet and dry sandpaper, and driled holes all over it with a hole saw,it turned out better than i thought it would, plus it pretty sturdy too,so that problem is temperarely solved, but im am definently going to move them to a bigger home.
