yes it is sad, and most people know that i think that parrot fish even if painted shouldn't be left in the lfs b/c of something out of its control, nor do i blame the people that paint them..

anyway most parrots will lose there colors after 2 months of living without color enhancement, and from what i know the color will return to a red/pink.

also if you don't like the fish, please don't buy one or say anything negative about them.

there are a lot of varied opinions out there of blood parrots and jelly bean parrots, however the general consensus among all true fish lovers is that painted parrots are an atrocity. sure, it is not their fault they have been artificially colored, but there is plenty of reason to let them sit in the fish store. for one thing, for every painted fish purchased, 5 more are created. also, they are quite simply a waste of money. I have yet to hear of any artificially colored fish living longer than 6 months.

With all the different varieties of fish and all the different colors I just can't see any reason folks would have to go and get a painted fish.

Please don't buy Dyed fish. That's the most cruel thing man can do to fish. If you buy Dyed fish, you are supporting them to do more.

"Painting" or dyeing the fish drastically shortens their lifespan. I guess I should haul out this link again: [link=http://deathbydyeing.org]http://deathbydyeing.org" style="COLOR: #808080[/link]

It is a sad practice, perpetuated by those who either don't know better or just don't care. The owner of the lfs that I currently work at has recently ordered painted blood parrots, in small and large sizes. He also ordered a batch of dyed black skirt tetras. I'm told that he orders painted fish because he thinks that they look cool, or something stupid like that.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

"I have yet to hear of any artificially colored fish living longer than 6 months."

My daughter bought me five strawberry tetras for my birthday over three years ago. I still have all five and they are healthy. The colour faded long ago.
