if parrot fish are hybreds, does it mean that they can reproduce. i always thought that parrot fish or hybreds in general could not reproduce. i was looking on aquabid and i saw a pair of proven parrots.

For most hybrids they are born sterile or the pure strain of the animal will not seek them out as a mate. In the confines of an aquarium, and especially with cichlids when one feels the urge to mate they aren't particularly picky. And if the hybrid inquestion is fertile rather than sterile offspring may be produced. In the case that you have provided two fertile hybrids happened to find each other in their little box world.

hybrids like mbuna and peacocks would be fertile because there so closly related but hybrids like parrot would be sterile beacause of the parents

a fairly high percentage of female blood parrots are fertile and can lay viable eggs. however, 95% of blood parrot males are infertile so could therefore not fertilize the eggs. in order to breed a blood parrot it's best to pair a female with one of the parent species which are red devil/midas and severum. most people who manage to breed a female blood parrot do so with a male red devil or midas. I don't recall offhand ever hearing of a blood parrot paired with a severum.

wether or not hybrids are fertile usually depends on how closely related the parents are. if they're the same genus or a closely related genus then the fry will often be fertile or at least a decent portion of the fry will be. however, if by chance 2 species that are not closely related (for instance say a green terror and jack dempsey) were to breed (which is highly unlikely) then the fry would most likely be infertile.
