does anyone use peat to soften their water. if so how do you use yours, in the filter or under your substrate, of do you just filter the water with it before it goes in the tank.

The correct way to use peat to soften your water is to place the peat in your filter. That way, the tank water being filtered will have to go through the peat, thus ensuring that your tank water is softened. The pH of your water will go down, too, I believe.

thats what i thought, but this book i just read suggested to put it under the substrate.

should be in filter, will have better water flow for them....and easier to throw them out once they are finish
