My Brichardi are in a 7.2 ph & they are fine. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

The truth is that most fish at the LFS have been bred so much that they already have adapted to lower pH, in which I mean that they can tolerate lower pH safely, such as 7 to 7.5. Now I dont mean the extremes, such as way below 7, but almost all africans I have handled thrived in lower pH than suggested in the books. Now wild, F1, and F2 would still need the higher pH, usually the suggested. Of course, there is absolutely no problem with using the buffers. If you would like to give the best to your fish, I give props to you. |

They also sell a ECO complete cichlid substrate, all would raise your PH naturally. Maybe run the tank with that kinda stuff and see what your PH might raise too? See if it stays steady. Try small water changes(20% 1/wk 0r 2/10% 2/wk) and see what happens. Chems can be bad and may cause flexuations in PH which is worse than "not proper PH" for the fish in question.BTW I did not look at the link, so I'm guessing on it being a solution/cichlid salt? I just prefer rocks and substrate 1st. |
