well belheid, you could try a target fish to keep the parents maternal instincts going, i know people do this with kribs. Maybe seperate them, I'm not sure though- cichlids are usualy good parents, though some do need a target fish.

If they are young they will probably eat the eggs the first couple spawns, so you could try and hatch them out. Also remember the fry are usaully very small and can only eat freshly hatch brine (1 day old brine).

Hi I've fallen in love with Blue Rams they are just the best little characters,

I am having great success in getting them to lay eggs and have finally managed to get them to the point of raising their wrigglers but once they turn into fry and start swimming around the parents switch from being all warm and fuzzy and parental and turn into cannibals.

Is this just a learning curve they are going through or am I doing something wrong????

Well, I live in town and I have a closed in fish room with a dragonfly like bug fling around in it... it was jet black with a blue abdomen. It was flying around my tank for about a week until it probably died. I do have live plants but I would say I hadn't added any for more than 4 months...go figure

likely it was the eggs- bloodworms are larvae not actual "worms" just like mealworms for anyone who has owned any kind of lizard.

I have had insects hatch from frozen blood worms! So I don't think it is the safest either. However I still feed bloodworms, brime shrimp, and beef heart also some good staple foods from kensfish.

I've found bloodworms don't leave white particles all over in the water, where as with brine shrimp i can actualy watch the water quality drop before my eyes.

I've found brine shrimp do horrible things to water quality when frozen. Bloodworms are my rams fav's.

As stated above, stick to an even m/f ratio. You'd need a tank of atleast 4ft long to maintain two mating pairs as they will need their space if and when they spawn.

4 males and 2 females? I'de say that if the 2 females become mated with 2 of the males, there will likely be a bloodbath consisting of the other 2 males. I'de say go all males and add them at the same time, or mate them and add lots of visual bariers, keeping only mated pairs. For size i'de push more for a 55g or so because of how teritorial they can get. Personaly I think rams are a great looking fish, but I can't reccomend them for a pure species tank. I'de also say avoid pairing a male and female together in a tank, because otherwise your other fish will pay for it. There may be safe ways of getting this all to work, but I'de say 2 or 3 juvenile males all added the same size at the same time is the safest way to go.

Its better to have two rams if they're female/male but its not necessary. When did you get him? if you just got him, he/she probably wont start eating till tommorow.

If not, try frozen bloodworms

Also, check you water for Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate

They're very picky about water condition

HTH,
