My friend wants to get a 100 gallon Oscar tank. He has a three inch oscar in his fifty gallon tank but he has to get rid of that tank so he can fit the 100 gallon tank. I have a 29 gallon tank with a yellow lab in it. How long could I have a three inch oscar in there and is there any way to house a full grown oscar in the tank. Also, I want a large cichlid in my 29 gallon tank, what is the biggest fish I could get? I would like everything but convicts or yellow labs. info is needed. thanx

how big is the yellow lab? if the yellow lab is big enough not to be eaten right away, then the 2 should be ok for a month, maybe 2.

and is there any way to house a full grown oscar in the tank.

in a 100 gallon tank, yes a full grown oscar will be fine. in a 29 gallon, no way.

how about a pair of firemouths. I wouldn't recommend anything that will get larger than 5-6" and not overly aggressive so firemouths would be perfect. you could get 6 baby firemouths and raise them up with say 6-9 platys and a bristlenose. once a pair forms then you'd need to get rid of the remaining firemouths. at this point you'd need to watch their aggression towards the platys. you may eventually need to move the platys to a different tank, but if the firemouths aren't overly aggressive towards them then you can leave them together.

If he is only 3" he will be fine, but don't wait to long to move him out. or bye bye lab.

Yeah, you also have to watch it when you mix africans and south americans because water conditions for the 2 vary greatly. Keep an eye on PH.
