German rams (I'm pretty sure that those are the ones you own) are supposed to have stripes, that is part of their natural coloration. My new ram (shown below) has stripes. If yours didn't have the stripes when you bought them, then they were probably stressed-out at the store. Their stripes are just now returning. My ram has colored up a lot since I bought him, and since I took that picture. He's quite a sight now![/font] And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I think a lot of cichlids get this, similar to the way some (usually) fish (like bettas and discus) sometimes show stripes.
