Peacock bass are cichlids of the genus Cichla. Apparently they somewhat resemble bass, which is where the common name comes from. "how are they different and sometimes classified as different..." I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you're asking about the "bass" designation, it isn't correct. Just as with many other common names, this one is inaccurate. |

Then there is the peacock bass. So that would explain the differences. |

There are several species of Cichla and no not all of them look alike and they do grow to different sizes. I believe the smaller ones grow to around 2 feet in length, while the largest is Cichla temensis growing to just over 3 feet. ![]() |
