Neons? I tried 2" tiger barbs with my 3" oscar and the oscar killed them all off. So yea, get something large, tinfoils would probably be the best

I would consider giant danios (4-6" if I remember right) and silver dollars (6-8" I believe) as medium sized...especially when compared to the likes of bala sharks (13"+), tinfoil barbs (13"+), and Irridescent sharks (36"+). Also, while I wouldn't consider them schoolers, there are some large-growing swordtails. I saw some awesome Montezuma swords that were every bit of 4-5" with swords as long as their bodies. they were kept in extremely large tanks with cichlids...mostly Thorichthys.

i like the idea of maybe say 5 silver dollars and 1 oscar or maybe tinfoil barbs or something?

they get big but schooling fish are either huge or tiny no medium sized ones lol

you will really need a 6' tank to house an oscar with a school of anything that won't wind up being food. If you have a 6' tank, then I'd say silver dollars would be your best bet. They are remarkably quick (from what I hear). That combined with their circular shape would make them very difficult to eat.

What size tank will the Oscar be in? Really need that information to make an informed decision.
