there are two different acei. one is the yellowtail (which i like & have) and the other acei which darker, almost black with white fins. both are supposed to have similar temperaments.

the hojomaylandi is also known as a greeberi. it is usually a 5 on a 1-10 scale of aggressiveness. herbivore, should go nicely with yellow labs. i wouldnt go with cynotilapias only because only one out of the group is nicely colored(the dominant male), the rest are fairly drab, but they are cool fish to keep. callainos(cobalts) are great, socolofi, blue labs (if you can get them), acei (very cool, one of my favorites, low aggression and always moving, gorgeous bluish/purple)
just stay away from any melanochromis species, they are way too aggressive and will kill, kenyi (maylandia lombardoi), too large for a 55g and wicked nasty, bumblebee (m. crabro) too large and nasty tempoered.

if you need your water buffered to 8.0, try aragamax sugar sand. it is killer. i exclusively use it in all of my tanks. it is about $16 per bag, but worth every penny.
you will need 2 bags.
