A 20 long would be better than a 10. Once they have a brood it's too many fish for a 10.

Now for sexing, the male's anal and dorsal fins trail back to points that come almost even with the end of the tail. The females fins don't trail back and she will develop a very purple belly.

If they are young it can be difficult to tell, you might buy 4 and take 2 back when their sex becomes apparent.

Have fun, Mike

Sorry, I don't have any pics.

EDIT- Look in the profiles on this site, Freshwater-Cichlids-Pelvicachromis Pulcher. The pic is a Male.

the fry will not be staying in there forever im just talking about a pair of kribs to breed in a 10 and live happily. I know they don't swim around much anyways.

I guess they'd fit in a 10 if it was just them and you pulled the fry after a few weeks.

They like caves and such. I used a small flower pot and enlarged the hole in the bottom with a hammer and chisle. Tap lightly and break just a little at a time. Then I used a saucer to block the large end and half buried it in the substrate.

Have fun, Mike

actually on second though i could always move a few fish and put a pair of kribs in my 29 gallon. Can kribs defend their young against tiger barbs? i currently have dwarfpuffers, ottos, a paradise fish, tiger barbs and 2 banjocats in my 29. I could just use my newly aquired 10 gallon for a nice planted dwarf puffer / otto tank.

I had a pair of Brichardi in with a pair of Kribs. Brichardi can be pretty testy fish. When the Kribs spawned, I had to take the Brichari out. The Kribs had them hiding under a rock and every time a Brichardi tried to venture out a Krib would be on him.

You could try it but I would have a backup plan for moving fish if things don't work out. The Kribs can defend against barbs, you just have to hope the Barbs are quick enough to get out of the way.

Have fun, Mike
