can south american cichlids and angels go together i realize that an angel is also south am but i was thinking maybe because of the body shape it would get attacked. the tank is a 40 gallon and i want to put in my two "mystery cichlids" (called jack dempseys in store but are not dempseys but same traits) and one green terror with my two angels is 40 gallons enough space

i definitely woulnd't try mixing angels with other, more aggressive cichlids. a 40 gallon tank isn't really as big as it looks once cichlids such as dempseys and green terrors reach full size.

one jack dempsey one green terror your angels will probly be killed and depending on if the JD and GT like each other or not. you could end up with one fish.

what are the dimensions of your 40 gallon? chances are it would be a nice tank for a breeding pair of either green terrors or jack dempseys.

how big are the 2 Jack dempseys and green terror? they won't start getting very territorial until they get to around 4-5". at this size they'll reach maturity and will become more aggressive and territorial than they had been before.

they wont see each other as rivals while yhey are small and there for wont be aggressive i ran into the same problem with my 2 JDs i had them both in a 75 and i thought theyd be fine but once one gains dominance the attacks and chasings are ruthless myn are 4-5 inches as they grow extreemly slow and altho not the meanest of my cichlids towards each other they are the worst. this is because in the wild male JDs are loners kind of like a male lion and keeping 2 full grown males in a tank of less then 300g would be impossible.

i wasnt sure if u were sarcastic or not but if not u are so wrong. 300 GALLONS do u realize how big that is. u can put 10 jack dempseys in a 300 gallon. you just had a bad experience with dempseys then because my uncle had two dempseys in a 29 for 6 years and they died of pretty much being old and they never fought. so ur 300 gallon tank remark was sooo incorrect just to make myself PERFECTLY clear

a JD would not die of old age in only 6 years. Most Central American cichlid can live well into their teens.

I think 300 gallons might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but for 2 full grown adult male Jack Dempseys a very large tank would be needed. I'd say at least a 125-180.

your uncles fish would hav most probly died from stunting where the fishes organs grow faster than the fishes body not old age... you can tell me im wrong all you like as im only here to offer advice not tell you what to do.
