I had a ten gallon open up. i want to get a ram or two. if two rams are impossible, what about a Dwarf panda cichlid. how many dwarf cichlids can fit in a ten gallon tank?

In a 10, I'd go with just one pair, but if you can't buy an obvious pair at the LFS try to get 2 males, 2 females and when they pair up return the other two fish for credit.

What's your water like? If it's softer, the apistos would be a great choice, if hard water, think about tanganyikan shell dwellers like Neolamprologus brevis or N. multisfaciatus. A brevis pair would do great in a 10. With mutlis, you could get 4 and they'd breed and form a nice little colony (and their fry are easy to sell when they grow bigger and you need to thin out the tank population).

A pair of Bolivian rams would fit in a tank like that, but it does depend on your water specs.

A pair could cost between 10 and 14 dollars. They aren't too pricey for cichlids.
