well, i just got 5 small nickel size angels in my 29g. i also have a 5-6 inch pleco along with a few ghost shrimps somewhere in there. just today, i noticed the gold angel is acting weird, its cichlid fins, the long string-like ones (pectoral?) are so close to its body, same with its dorsal fin, sometimes looks like its swimming against strong current, but the other angels are fine.

i got them the same time, water condition is fine, maybe its a little warmer today cuz i added a pretty bright compact fluorescent bulb, plus my mom turned off the ac]:| i have plants in my tank too, they are doing ok too. but if its the water, then my other angels should be stressed too? but only the gold one is like this, it sorta hides, but it still hangs out with all the other angels, its just not very active. i was not able to tell if anything was wrong at all until i spent a minute checking him out closeup.

so what exactly is wrong with this fellow? it still eats, but barely, no physical damages, although there is this spot on its head that looks white, but i think its just the scale thats reflecting the light that way, cuz its like that when i got it, and it was fine back then.

the stress is probably from transportation
but i see that you are an experienced hobbiest, so i assume you know how to properly introduce a fish

did you have the lights on while adding the fish?
and what's your procedures?

my angel did the same when i fist got it, but after a week, everything is fine

remember not all fish will react the same way to stress

procedure...
put the bag in water for a few mins
cut the bag and let some my tank water in
let more tank water in
then release the fish

anything wrong?

Your acclimation procedure sounds pretty good.

If you just got them in the last couple of days, I'd say give it some time to get adjusted.

Even if it was the current, angels can take more current than some people give them credit for. Mine actually like to swim in the bubble wall, which sometimes flips them and their "sails" around.

Could be 'just a weak fish'. Time will tell. I'd suggest for future reference that you turn the lights off and leave off for an hour or so after the new fish have been allowed into the tank. I'd also allow the bag to float in the tank for approx 15/20 mins before you cut it and allow tank water in. These will give the new arrivals more time to adjust to the change in temp, change of water chemistry, of surroundings and also other fish.

i would strongly recommend that you turn the lights off next time when you introduce a fish. what i do is float the bag on the water for at least 15minutes, oven the bag and still keep it floating (you think a way). Suck out some water from the tank and put it in a bucket, add some Aqua Plus into the bucket ( main job is to remove chlorine, but it has new stress relief formula). Pour a little bit into the bag at the time, it usually take me about 1 hour to do that. At any time of the procedure, water from lfs does not come in contact with the tank water directly. Then slowing net the fish out of the bag and let the fish swim out of the net and into the tank. Easy does it.

Angels are slow reacting/moving fish. It will get use to the new environment. Remeber, my angel took 1 week before it start eating.

Good luck
