Here's a general little list of South American tankmates:

Non-nippy schooling tetras- rummies and cardinals are popular
Dwarf cichlids- rams and Apistos, as well as curviceps and festivums
Cories
Ottos
Ancistrus plecos
Farlowellas

Some Asian fish (like certain rasboras and loaches) can be kept with discus as well, but won't fit into a biotope. We have clown loaches, flying foxes, harlequin rasboras, tetras, a farlowella, cories, and some dwarf cichlids in a discus tank at work. It's horribly overstocked, but the fish are all technically "compatible".

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."
