hello
i have a 20g that will house a pair of kribs . i was wondering about possible tankmates. an african butterfly would be very interesting and ive done lots of research. im worried that the kribs might beat him up . anyways the tank will be heavily planted(already got ton of riccia on the surface)with lots of low light plants (java fern, lots of different anubias)and pieces of driftwood . also would be interrested in ottos to keep algea in check. already got brigs as bottom cleanup crew.do you all think this might work?thanks

A 20 gallon is quite limited to alot of fish with a breeding pair of kribs. The african butterfly you suggested is actually a good choice, since it stays at the surface away from the kribs. Since they get aggressive when they start breeding, it's best to keep surface fish, mainly full sized gouramis.

An African Butterfly fish comes from
the same continent as Kribs, and would
enjoy a nice hard water tank just like the
Kribensis.
You could keep 1 in a 20 with a pair of kribs.
Breeding kribs are very aggressive, but shouldnt be a
problem with ABF.
I have known Kribs to have killed Angelfish,
Gouramis, Tetras, and Cory cats.

the ottos -may- work. ive heard of insanely agressive kribs that destroy entire tanks of fish but dont see the ottos lol. the ottos are very small and dont move much so maybe they dont see them as a threat to eggs. anyway just thought i would relay that 3rd hand info

enjoy the kribs...very interesting fish indeed

Otto's will be fine & it's better to have about 4/6 in the 20 gal. tank.
Kribensis are quite interesting, especially when breeding.

My Kribs rarely bother with the Otto's, but hated the BN i had in with them.

Also a small school of tetra's might be a good idea, to help keep the pair bonded...

Tetras should be able to hold there own against kribs and such...they are quite good at dodging anything that comes there way...especially if it can't eat them.
