i have about 5 a.cactuoides (1 male, 3 females, 1 undetermined) in a 55G planted community aquarium.

could i transfer 2 blue rams i have in another tank to this larger tank, or would that be too many bottom dwelling dwarfs?

for hiding spots i have various rock piles, pieces of driftwood, and two half terra cotta flowerpots.

my reasoning behind this is that the rams currently live in a 29G with a gold ram, a bolivian ram, a queen botia, a yo-yo loach and a whack of guppies. i thought they might be happier in the larger tank.

thanks

It should be fine, especially if the Apistogramma cichlids aren't breeding and in a highly-territorial state. Though fifty-five gallon tanks aren't very wide, they are four feet long and provide space on the bottom for multiple dwarf cichlid territories. With all of the rocks and whatnot on the substrate, there should be plenty of things around which the fish can set up their bases.

I agree with you, the rams would appreciate the extra room. I don't think that the Apistos will get very nasty in the tank setup you described. If there aren't any other fish that might attack the rams, then moving them to the fifty-five gallon will likely work out.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

thanks... maybe i'll do that then. i'm hoping that the apistos will breed eventually, but from what i understand, they can normally be bred without issues in a community set up. also, i can always add some more "caves" and such

thanks! wish me luck
