Maybe it just wants to live on it's own Hmmmm, you'll find that because it's fully grown it's probably going to be anti social unless it was raised with other fish. If it's eating it's tankmates, well, it's normal. You could try adding fish that are bigger than it, so it can't swallow them and might just settle down, but i don't know what you could added to a 3ft tank with an 11cm fish! Have you had a 'browse' of the profiles section on this site? They normally add some hints about what you could try. You might like to try a quick schooling fish, and lots of them. If they don't work out, atleast you wont have to buy food for the killer If you only recent bought the fish, i'd talk to the LFS you got it from about swapping it for something less aggressive. Thats if you want a community tank. Otherwise, you could try 'mixing it up' with some other large agressive Malawai cichlids, but it could just prove an expensive flop. I'd have started him off when he was small with some tank mates to big for him to eat (i.e. about the same size) and let hime settle in from there. Now, it's probably to late as he's nearly fully grown and will be set in his ways. |

You can see which cichlids I keep below in my signature, including the kind you have. I don't have any issues what so ever between them. However, with any smaller species I've tried to keep with them, even fast glo fish (zebra danios) they were eaten. |

If i do decide to add more fish to the tank would it be an idea to rearrange the tanks rocks and remove the fish before i add the other(s) |

Probably a better bet is to remove him from the tank and add a few new fish into the tank(after you have changed-moved decorations). Try to make them the same sized and agressive. I recommend the auratus or kenyi. Good luck you are in a difficult situation, I have never tried them in less than a 55 gallon. |

Yeah i am planning on getting a 184 gallon tank soon enough |

If you get something that is bigger and more aggressive then him then he will be killed. A 33 gallon tank is just not suited for big african cichlids like yours. Wait until you get the big tank, do a fishless cycle and then introduce a bunch of fish all at once including him. Then keep the 33 as a hospital tank or for holding females, or get some dwarf cichlids for the 33 gallon tank. |
