If he was dead in the decor, he probably got stuck there, since he was missing for a couple of days, he probably was trapped there and died.

well he was missing up intil this morning. it turns out he wasnt eaten. i guess after he died he got stuck in some decor and one of my cichlids nocked him free.

what a horrible thing to see when you first wake up.

i cleaned my whole room hopeing to find him. but no luck.

i wouldve felt much better if i knew he jumped out instead of gotten eaten.

but im sure he died before he got eaten so i wonder what hew died from?

the tank is only a 35usg, but in a month he would've been moved into a 120usg.

he would've enjoyed the space.

i hope to get another.

plus i fed them that morning!

i before i left town for a day i did my weekly water change. but when i returned the water was murky. then i soon realize my 6inch leporinus was missing! i check everywhere but no lep. his tank mates are an albino oscar , jack dempsey, texas, and a green terror. but the leporinus was the longest in the tank and the fastest.

so is it possible that my cichlids devoured my lep within a day?

the fish is not on the filter. all the decor and gravel are black and white. the lep was 6inches and was black and yellow, so he would be hard to miss. i have a strong sense that he was eaten.]

My Jack Dempsey died a while back...he was dead in the tank for 2 days before I got home... The water was slightly cloudy, but it wasn't bad...

How big was this fish? Could it have gotten into the filter (if you have a HOB)? One of my brother's africans got into his filter a few years ago...he thought he'd died or jumped out, but he was in the filter

i dont think he jump out, he always stayed on the bottom because the cichlids ruled the top. but if he did i checked the only spots where he could've landed.

but the water never gets murky because of pellets

and the water is crystal clear today.

so is it possible for a fish to be eaten with nothing to show for it?

Murky water in one day?? Did you overfeed it?

A fish couldnt possibly cause that murky water, I had a dead flowerhorn, about 7", and the water was still crystal.

If the fish actually died, the fish coulda eaten it.

Odds are it jumped out somewhere...or its hidden in the substrate or somewhere

Is it possible that it got caught in the filter and that's why your water is all murky? Will a dead fish make the water murky that quick in one day?

i looked everywhere but i found nothing. but he was known at the lfs to jump 10feet, so if he jump out he could be anywhere i didnt look.

but ill do a nitrate test tomorrow and clean the tank to see if there are remains.

Is your tank covered ? Any open spots where it could have jumped ? Murky water, possibly still in your tank stuck somewhere... If you can't find it, do a nitrate test. That should tell you if its in there. Sorry to hear about your loss.
