You should make your 36 gallon an Electric Yellow species tank. They're incompatible with almost all of the fish that you listed. I'll take the advice of the previous poster a step further and say Malawis with Malawis, Haps with Haps, Tangs with Tangs, because not all Africans are compatible with each other.

An angel should be ok...look at some similar looking cichlids...as for the "guggies"- I assume Guppies...if they are small enough to get eaten, then will get eaten...although if they reproduce, their fry would be yummy for other fish...your choice!

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!

For yellows, a 36 will really only work as a species tank. You could maybe add a single Bristlenose or a single Syno (of a compatible species which doesn't school), but definitely not any kind of community mix. Sorry, but if you want a community, yellows are out.
If you prefer the yellow to the community, I'd add a group of five and then remove any extra males down the line. One male and three females will be about max in there, with plenty of rockwork.

you could try older angle fish because they can take care of themsalves pretty well.
