Hi All
I am getting a 5ft aquarium which already houses 2 parrot fish/a silver dollar/a silver shark
i wanted to also get
a red tiger oscar
a jack dempsey
a jaguar cichlid
i have also seen a freshwater moray eel which i would like as my bottom dweller are these compatible
in my 5ft aquarium i will be running a 47" air curtain with 5 submersible electric blue l.e.d. lights
and also a moray eel bubble ornament
hope this is not too much aeration
many thanks

The oscar would work but the JD and jaguar wouldn't. FW moray eel are brackish water fish. I would suggest to get more silver dollars too. What filtration are you going to have.

Sorry to douse your hopes, but that eel is gonna outgrow that tank, and it's brackish, as stated, and more than likely, that Jag would rip apart the JD and the oscar, as it would to the parrots and the silver dollar, (not sure bout the shark), and Silver dollars should best be in a group, and if the Jag doesn't do as stated above, the JD more than likely would

the filtration is going to be run by a eheim external filter
i understand that it is a filter that also gets the water to the correct temp before pumping it back into the aquarium
i shall have to have a huge word with the guy in my aquatic shop as he said a freshwater eel would be fine in a tropical aquarium
many thanks for the info

As was said before the jag and the dempsey are going to cause trouble.

yea jaqs are very aggresive fish... and same with the JD... silver dollars are a school fish and they are vegetarians.. so i would make sure they are getting veggies in there diet.. umm the eel.. your probably thinking of the snowflake moray eel.. it will get about 3 feet.. so i dont think it would work in that size tank... umm but a oscar i think it would be fine. are you getting a small one or a big one??

what are the other dimensions of the tank?

the dempsey may work out ok but the jag is definitely a bad idea. other cichlids you could consider are severums, chocolate cichlids, or uarus. these are also all south american and are similar in temperament to oscars.

you're welcome.

ok, just to clarify, is the tank 15" wide and 24" tall or 24" wide and 15" tall? That will make quite a difference in how much you can stock.

2 parrot fish/a silver dollar/a silver shark

Silver Dollars and Bala Sharks (silver sharks) are both schooling fish. You should keep them in schools of 6 or more. Unfortunately, Bala Sharks get too large for your tank. They reach a length of 14 inches, and in a tank that size, once they get big enough, they can zoom down the tank at such speed and power they can smash the glass, or kill themselves.
I had 3 in my 90g tank, and they outgrew it pretty quick.
Silver Dollars and Parrot fish are both peaceful, and should not be kept with aggressive fish. A Jack Dempsey alone could easily have them for lunch.

I keep a red devil, jack dempsey(my oscars best friend),some hap.ahli's,convicts, and a crown ruby(added when oscar was a baby). They all get along great.oscar is the peace keeper. If any of the others start fighting he gets between them and breaks it up.it all depends on the oscar what you can keep with it.Some people we know kept a goldfish with theirs!
