I saw a small little fish today at a LFS I had never been to before. They had a good many cichlids. One kind they had was small, about the size of my female German Ram. It was about 1.5 inches. It looked to me like a Ram. It was overall, the light brownish body color of Bolivian rams...maybe a bit darker. It had irridescent blue pattern you could see in the light. Also, it had the large black spot of a ram and then 3 small dots in a horizontal row. Some of them were as small as 1 inch. What kind of cichlids are these? I wondered if they were rams because I have been looking for a male German ram, but they were not Germans. All of them seemed to have the same coloring...not like the difference in females and males in Bolivian and German rams.
I looked through the cichlid pictures, but none looked like those fish. Any ideas?

Well, it would be very difficult for me to guess without a picture (no imagination), but could it be an Apistogramma species? They're a large group of dwarf cichlids which can vary greatly in coloring and pattern. Were none of the store employees able to help you? It also seems odd that they would not have labels on their sale tanks.

Sounds along the lines of a eartheater, possibly geophagus brasiliensis.

Sorry sirbooks...I didn't get a picture. I wasn't interested in buying them and the employees were busy. Also the tank wasn't labeled so I didn't ask. I should have though. I plan on going back sometime in the next couple weeks to get some panda cories, so I will ask then. Thanks for the help though...I was just curious because I had never seen them before and like other cichlids...they were alot smaller. I will post back on here when I go back and ask.
