Yay, for Mbunas.

Yesterday I got (all juveniles)
3 Hongis
1 kingsizei(called Elvis)
1 electric yellow (called Donovan)

My clown loaches are bigger than the newies (amuses me to see).

I will add more once I get paid.

Looks awesome. I am thrilled....

Thanks for your help Just Beginning and all other FP peoples-es.

(reason for edit: wrong fish name kingsizei/johanni should just read kingsizei - Elvis the fish Rocks!)

A very nice start

What else are you planning on?

I bought 5 Lab. Textilis 2-3 days ago, very rare fish here and in most parts from what i hear....

Anyways, enjoy and good luck with your new little ones

I am planning to get

3 more hongis.
1 x Socolofi
4 x crabros

I am copying Just beginning's setup - 5 hongis, 11 crabros 2 socolofi, 1 electric yellow, 1 johannii.

In the display tank @ the lfs (Auburn) I saw a red empress that looked awesome. But not sure if it would be compatible. Any advice. Don't have my heart set on it so won't be offended if you nix the idea.

PJ - we are sameys! Good for you. Hope you are happy with your tank. I am thrilled, or in the local vernacular 'stoked'.

i love my tank. still haven't decided what else to put in.

I bought the fish from a friend who breeds them, so i got them for cheap.

Just an FYI - kingsizei are different fish to johannii. Since they are still rare and pricy in Australia I think it would be a johannii that you got.

Sounds like a great set-up to me! How much did you pay for the hongi?

Well it was sold to me as a kingsizei and he did mention that they don't have them very often.

Kingsizei was $39.95.

In my book that is pricey. Maybe I was duped. They were labelled at Kingsizei. The site where I got info on them (with pic) http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/p_kingsizei.php

He looks just like that pic. Maybe I am delusional. I wrote Johanni next to it as I thought that was part of the scientific name, it shouldn't be there.

I looked at a pic of a johanni. There is too much dark pigment on the body compared to mine and has a more streamlined body shape compared to Elvis.

The Hongis were $16.95 each (maybe I have sucker written all over me!)

Do not add socolofis. I have had only problems with socolofis and labs. I had one socolofi that would sit out in the open and flared up when he saw any other fish and they would hide. I would stongly urge against socolofis and yellow labs.

Thanks Mr. That is interesting. For a fuller picture can you post a listing of what you had in your tank? A full list of stock?

thanks...

Yep, that is pricey, is definitely a kingsizei then. But johannii are completely different.

Kingsizei - pseudotropheus kingsizei
Johannii - melanochromis johannii

Kingsizei are beautiful fish though .

The stock list was
3 yellow labs
4 socolofis
The tank was around 30 gallons but that wasn't a permanent home. All of the fish were juviniles.
