I don't have any cichlids and don't play on getting any anytime soon; however, just out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the name of a fish I saw at a local Wally World. It was an all yellow cichlid in a tank with a bunch of other juvies. I was wondering what the yellow one could be (completely yellow, no other colors) and what a black and blue striped one would be. I know this isn't much to go by. Thanks!

The yellow cichlid is almost certainly an Electric Yellow (labidochromis caeruleus). They are an African rift lake mbuna, from Lake Malawi. The blue and black one is probably an mbuna as well, but there are a lot of different species that would fit that description. Have a look at http://www.cichlid-forum.com/photogallery and select malawi mbuna, you'll probably find the fish you saw (juvis often look different to adults though).

yellow labidochromis (yellow lab) is mostly yellow with some black (stripe thin) on the dorsal fin and males show more black on pelvic and anal fins. Males tend to show more black than females but the fish is 95% bright yellow and very cool. They are not as agressive as other cichlids but they are still cichlids and can be more agressive as they mature. They are said to be easy to breed mouth broaders as I may try to do myself.

Yellow one might actually be a yellow zebra cichlid. Theres alot of fish that could fit your category though. Was it in a malawi or tanganyikan tank?

Blue and black was probably a demasoni or kenyi.

Actually if the yellow fish was in a tank with some blue and black ones it's possible that they could be something like pseudotropheus saulosi, which has blue and black males and yellow/orange females.

Lots of possibilities with malawi cichlids!

hard to believe walmart would have soulosi. not impossible though. more like they had some yellow labs and kenyi. that is my guess.
