hey i,m in the process of adding more yellow labs to my tank the 3 i have now are bout 2 inches 2 are yellow with light fins the norm one has some black in the anal fin and black in the pic fine is this a male thanks

Well its hard to sex the EL's without venting. But as your best guess by eye will be: the males have more black on the anal fins and a black "stripe" across the eyes. 2" is still alittle young for that to be 80% acurate, but will give you an edge on getting/knowing the sex.

As has been said the most dependable way of sexing yellow labs is to vent them. But it is fairly accurate to be able to tell by their pectoral fins...the lighter pectoral fins, some almost white or white are generally female. The males tend to have black pectoral fins.

Don't forget if you are planning on adding more to the tank (what size is the tank) to do some rearranging of the stone and decorations in the tank, thus making it a "whole new tank" to everyone involved, and this will eliminate any previous territories

hey id heard the black fin before i just dont trust myself to vent yet o the tank is a 75 gal 3 p socolofi 3 p zebra and 3 e yellows

Just a side note, You can often tell Male's and female's by the fin coloring in Labs....

However, In the absence of a Male the dominant female will show male coloring. So the only true way is to vent
