i was wondering if yellow labs,(about 1 inch a piece) eat tropical flake fish food or what i should feed them? The guy at petsmart was no help and said they will eat what ever they feel like (not a good enough answer for me). Any help would be great.

thanks a bunch

johnny.

My labs eat flake food but a better diet is cichlid pellets made by Hikari, they come in various types ,also frozen malawi mix is another favourite along with brine shrimps.(Note nothing to heavy like bloodworms,)

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

tropical flake food works well...cichlid flakes and cichlid pellets would be better though. Yellow labs are for the most part, omnivorous but should be given more plant matter than animal matter. blood worms and brine shrimp every now and then would be fine but using them all the time isn't a good idea. I'd offer lettuce, zucchine, and other algae/vegetable flakes and pellets.

i feed mine new life spectrum pellets and i have to say i know of no better food. i dare you to compare the ingredients in hikari with nls. you will be amazed. it is a perfect food for yellow labs. i also like to suppliment with fresh lettuce, zuchini, spinach, etc...
you have to be carefull with feeding a huge variety as most foods are very low in actual vitamins and neccessities. most are mainly fillers. some spirulina flakes have very little spirulina in them. i trust nls and have noticed my fish do better with less variety and sticking to something they are used to. in the wild they eat virtually, the same thing their whole life. i used to think the variety thing made sense, but i dont now after really thinking about it and getting other informed opinions. by the way, you can get nls in all sizes and i find the grow version to be a great food for smaller mbuna and haps. good luck.

New life spectrum cichlid formula, Tetracichlid mini granuals, Nutrafin Max spirulina algae tablets, Wardley cichlid pellets.
Thats the kinda variety i give my yellows. i mixx it up all during the week. your looking for variety in taste but the ingrediants pretty much stay the same, some changes to the actualy amount of a given ingredient. Would you eat potatoes all week?

my staple food is 100% spirulina, and a mix between New Life Spectrum cichlid pellets and tetra color bit's.

for a treat they get brine shrimp, emerald entre's (frozen food) and on the rare ocassion some frozen blood worms.

My Elec.Yellow eat flake food but I also feed them cichlid Hikari pellets & granules. Just try to feed them different food & see which they prefer most.
