	young pink convict sexing
bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004	i have 2 really small pink convicts, maybe about .5 inches. while in the lfs tank, i spoted a female, she was the only one with orange. i also let the person pick the other, thinking that their were only males left. however when i was looking in the bag, i say some orange scales on the other one, but not as many, and not on the fins. umm, does this mean i have two females, or do some males get alittle orange on the belly area.

scott gallant Small Fry Posts: 5 Kudos: 4 Votes: 0 Registered: 04-Jan-2006	I would probably say that both your convicts are females because ive had many convicts (males and females) and the males never had a trace of orange or even red or yellow on their bellies. So i would say that both your pink convicts are females! Hope i helped u out a bit

I had a horrible time trying to find homes for my convict fry. Two stores told me they'd buy 'em as feeders, one store owner laughed at me, and I finally ended up selling them through a classified ad site. Have you sold fish on Aquabid? Seems like it would be interesting. Why don't you just get four more convicts? Putting two in a tank doesn't mean you automatically get a pair. Do you have marbled convicts in your area? Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005	I had two black cons for almost 4 years and they only spawned with serviving fry once. They wouldn't spawn all that often either, say something like once in a blue moon. I lost my female a couple of months ago and replaced her with a pink female. Now it is every two weeks or so they are at it. Most of the time my pleco gets the eggs but they just pulled it off a couple of weeks ago with my pleco in the tank.
