is the zebra oscar and the tiger oscar the same thing? or does the zebra have black/white stripes? but if i were you i would just wait for the second tank to minimize the stress on you and the fish.

Don't put an oscar in that tank with those other fish. Sorry but it will grow very quickly into something that will not have enough space and it will destroy the other inhabitants even quicker. It would be OK in that sized tank if it was alone.

There are different species of oscar besides Astronotus oscellatus, but most of these are not commonly seen in the hobby. Also, if you do come across them they would most likely be labelled differently and price would reflect the difference.

The best way to attain the other species is through http://www.tangledupincichlids.com. 2-4 different oscar species are commonly available from this site.

To answer the question though, yes zebra oscars are probably the most natural form of oscars that you can find. I bought 6 once to grow up and at ~3-4" the orange started showing up and the white gradually faded to a darker grey color that blended in with the rest of the black/dark grey coloration.
