they are machrobrachium shrimp, (long arm shrimp) and no, i havent seen them in many places in Syd.. i saw them once, but i have no idea where it was

they are available at www.crayhaven.com in large numbers.

If you would be able to wait, we can pick you some up in Qld where they are sold for feeders.

Hi -Thanks!! yes that would be cool if you could get me some, I'd be willing to wait. A guy told me at an aquarium that the ponds in La Perouse are full of freshwater shrimp.. but I'm not game to go wading in there!

not hard to catch your own shrimp, I catch them down here in Vic for feeding my natives with.
Just go to k-mart or the lie and purchase yourself a shrimp net (around 10 bucks), put a block of soap in it, then throw it in the water where you know that there is shrimp.
Beware, you must have a battery operated airator to trnasprot these, as they die very qucikyl without one!

Yep there are shrimp in the Nambucca River at Macksville (my neck of the woods!), and well they would be brackish and most likely would not survive in freshwater.

I had long arm shrimp back like two years ago, they were at the LFS being sold as feeders. Eventually my Blue Acaras finished them off.

I would say CrayHaven would be the place to get some..

yes, soap, for some reason they are attracted to the scent of soap, don't ask me why, I no idea, alls I know, is that it works!

I catch them this way in Victorian rivers for feeding my oscar, murry cod, barramundi and redfin with.

Hi Folks, I think I'll just wait. I'll try cray haven - looks a bit far.... I live in inner west sydney - not exactly reputed for fresh water ways - giant storm water drains maybe. Any creeks are bound to be national parks.

Yep Gomer, my grandmother lives at Macksville and she owns a riverfront property there. Many happy holidays spent there fishing and whatever. Hows Scotts head? Good beach that.

They are open to the public, but you have to call ahead so they can pre-catch your order. give then a day or so notice.

If anyone does do a 'shrimp run', it would be great if they could take the sydney orders and just pick up the lot while they were there.

Yeah i like Scotts Head beaches Troy. Me goes there to play tennis almost every weekend, great place.

Wells back on topic. I got a good 10 or so Atyidae Shrimp which came from Crayhaven. They stay relatively small, and will become easy fodder for most fish. So choose which fish to put them with if you want to keep them alive.

Well, the long arm ones might not be til February when we go up there (you are welcome to come) but i think we can do a shrimp run soonish...

There are FW crabs available in some places, are they of interest? I know a few stockists of those.
