LOL, now now, don't be like that!

in the past 6 months quite a few new substrates have come in, including some german plant clay stuff, something like flourite it looks like.

you might want to call more uppity places or specialist places, like maybe Lams or Auburn or even try Kellyville because they tend to err on the side of expensive.

thinking outside the square, what about rock dust? going somewhere that sells black/grey gravel and getting the cruddy sweepings and then putting it through a sieve and rinsing off the very fine dust? then you have like sand size pieces?

If I recall one of the admins of the Aussie Discus or Betta site used black sand in some tanks (I think it was called onyx - really fine grade black sand).

If I can locate a post or image I will add a link (mind you I saw this over 6 months ago)

If the tank si for plants, then get the AquaClay...very good stuff!

I know AquaOne has this pitch black gravel, quite fine as well. Maybe you should go check em out.

the aquaone gravel is pretty much the same as Tuscan path, except its more $$

Onyx is ok, and you might be able to get it, but its pretty nutrient-rich and is designed for plant growth. that being said, Lams.

I bought a bag of the aqua one pitch black gravel. I found I didnt have enough for my small 6g tank (cost me $21 for the gravel) so I chucked in white gravel. My small tank looks like a lammington. My BBGs like it though.
