I thought about a disposable diaper but decided it would be cheaper with newspaper. What do you think about the water bottles? Mike |

When the kribs came in, only a few bags had water in the second bag, none of them leaked. Instead I would fill up some bags with plain air, tie is so it doesnt leak, and use that to take up excess room. This way you dont have to pay for the weight of the newspaper being shipped. |

Mike R![]() Fish Addict Posts: 593 Kudos: 830 Votes: 322 Registered: 27-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | When I shipped the Kribs to Inko I used bags that I got from the LFS. I put in a little bit of water, 4oz. I think but it might have been 6, 4 fish and blew it up with air from on of my aquarium pumps. (Don't blow them up with your breath because there is less oxygen. The water is just to keep them wet, the oxygen in the air is what keeps them alive.) I twisted, folded and rubberbanded the end then put that bag upside down in another bag of the same size and twisted, folded and rubberbanded that bag. That way there are no corners for the fish to get left high and dry in. I put the bags in a cooler with a bunch of newspaper to cushion them and soak up any water. Put the cooler in a box and mailed them. If they give you any grief at the Post Office direct them to 526.6 Small, Harmless, Cold-Blooded Animals under Hazardous, Restricted and Perishable Mail I sent them Express but it took 2 days anyway so next time I'm shipping Priority. I get these great little coolers from work, we get salmon fillets in them and they are just the right size. I think next time I ship I'm going to use 500ml (16.9oz.) water bottles if the fish are small enough. I'll have to dump the fish in with a funnel and they'll hold fewer fish than the bags but they are sturdier andless likely to spring a leak. i may put a plug of some kind in the neck so no fish get stranded there in the sloshing. So how about I ship you 6 Kribs, I'll put one in each bottle. that way you'll have the bottles and the cooler to ship the firemouths back. I'd imagine you could put 4 or 6 firemouth fry in each bottle so that would get rid of a bunch. Before you ship you need to let the fish go hungry for a day or two so they don't foul the water with waste. I would only go a day with 4 week old fry. they are pretty small and don't have alot of reserves. The Kribs are fast little buggers, if you have nooks and crannies for them to dodge into the firemouths will never catch them. Pwew! So Waddayathink, Mike |

I gotta get rid of all these firemouth fry, lol. Maybe getting some kribs would be a bad idea right now. But I will still send you the firemouths. How do u go about shipping them so I know they won't die during shipment? Last edited by 91Bird305 at 13-Oct-2004 15:13 |

The temperatures have been high, and there has been a local fire and three other fires near my area. If tomorrow is still as hot, I might have to post-pone the shipping till next week. The humidity is very low and the temperature is really hot. Forecasts says temperatures will be in the high 80's. |

They would ship a package across Canada for about 20-27 dollars, and they charge so many cents per 10km or something like that, so I assume the cost to Ontario from BC, would be about the same to ship to Wisconsin/ or Minnesota, as its around the same distance. I dont know how quick things would get there, but they do have express for 6 bucks more to any locale. I will go in there tomorrow and ask in person for rates to the USA, and across the country, and how long it takes. Much, much cheaper than Canada Post. Hey Devon, Do you have an LFS who'll take the extras? I could send a half dozen and you could take your pick and give or sell the rest to your LFS or give them to a friend. I'm sure 4 Kribs will be okay. The shipping is a push as far as I'm concerned. If at some point we trade later and you're loaded with something send a few extra, if not I'm not worried about it. You pay for shipping the Fronts and I'll pay for shipping the Kribs. I'm for trying Canada too. I'll see what I can find out from my end and you Canuks do the same. What part of Canada are you in? UPS is $40 overnight for 2.5 LBS...doesnt matter about the size of parcel either.... Two day is only $16 though. Another thing, one front dissapeared. I have absolutely no idea what happened to it, but the larger of the two is still alive. Would you like anything else?? I work at a LFS and can probably buy the fish, quarantine, and ship it to you. |

Mike R![]() Fish Addict Posts: 593 Kudos: 830 Votes: 322 Registered: 27-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | Don't buy anything, just send the one Front. I'm wanting to get a 120-180 for my loaches and a big old Frontosa would look pretty cool in there. Next trade, when your Brichardis or Pulchers breed, you can send a few extra. What are Daffodil Pulchers? Are we talking Acara here because there's different Pulchers? Kribs are Pelvicachromis Pulcher. The Post Office is only $21 for 3 lbs Express Mail. That's overnight from here to you. Don't go UPS, $40 is double the Post Office (United States Postal Service) price. Yeha, Mike |
