Well at first I didn't know what I wanted to do with the 29 Gallon I'm getting, but now I know, I want to do a tiger barb community. I think after keeping fish for over 3 years it's time to get into a slight semi-aggressive fish. I would like maybe 3 different kinds of fish at least, open to more of course. Basically tiger barbs, something else, and something for the bottom. If possible I'd like the fish to be bright, as this will be a living room tank. I thought guests would rather see an active tank than a "Oh look, that fish is so pretty and staying in one spot" tank. So any thoughts or suggestions?

I'd go for a rainbow shark and some garras on the bottom.
The rainbow shark will make sure your tigers stay together, whereas the garras will look nice on the bottom.

Be sure to have at least a very large bunch of valisneria; that's the kind of surrounding tigers live in in the wild too. I recommend planting one corner of the tank with valisneria. They'll retreat there at night.

I second the rainbow shark. They are very active fish and very beautiful in good conditions. They go well wth tiger barbs. Also Black Ruby barbs are good with Tigers. Once I get my new 65 Gallon for my Firemouth, I plan to turn my 27 long back into a Tiger Barb Comminty tank, as it was before the big Ice storm a few years ago. I used to have 6 Tigers and 3 Black Rubys. They were a great community with some peppered corys.

I am not sure what Garras are?!

What number of each should I go with? Besides the obvious 1 shark.

I'd skip the black tuby barbs (different biotope), take 10 tigers and 5 garra's (stonesuckers).
And the rainbow shark, of course ...

I have a 20 gal. with 3 Tigers, 2 Black Ruby's. I used to have a rainbow shark with them but he really ruled the tank and needed more space. You might be alright with the extra space that I didn't have. My shark is now hanging out in my 55 gal with my Convics and other fish. Every once in a while he likes to pick on my B. Rainbow's, Giant Danio's and some times my Convict's.

How many Tigers and Ruby's would you put in a 20 gal.?
