I bought an Apollo Shark today on special at the LFS. It was in with some Balas. Although they look quite similar, are they the same species?

I looked here on this site, and I couldn't find a unique description for them.

Can anyone help?

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

apollo sharks are definitely not the same as bala sharks.
They do have a lot in common, though.
Both grow to about a foot in lenght and are great jumpers.
Apollos, however, are surface swimmers. In the wild, they live in the same biotopes, in tributaries of the Mekong, in Thailand and Laos.

I hope your tank is big enough to enjoy these beautiful fish (both the balas and the apollo). If your tank is big enough (min. 5 ft. long), I'd get at least three of each to make them feel at home. If your tank is too small, enjoy them while you can, but be sure to give them to someone who has room for them when they outgrow your tank.

I have three balas in a 120 that is 5 ft long.

I was going to put three Apollo's in their as well.

Do you think tha would work?

Other fish are 12 barbs, spiny cichlid and a jewel cichlid.

Probably not. only because i think apollo sharks get huge, and you have i believe 3 balas in that tank already. they can be together if that tank is larger.

it might work, but as the sharks grow bigger, you'd need to take the other fish out.
