I had six Tiger Barbs and one Male Dwarf Gourami in my 65 gal tank. A week ago when I was changing the water I noticed that one of the smaller Tiger Barbs was missing and Gourami had a small chunk missing ... definite bite mark. Then a couple of days ago I saw another smaller chunk of the Gourmai missing on the other site ... if this is a bite then it is bigger than the previous bite. I removed the Gourami and placed him in my 29gal tank with Paltys.

Is it possible that a fight between the Gourami and the Tiger Barbs, theTiger Barbs bit a chunk off the Gourami and one of the smaller Tiger Barbs was killed. But it is a mystery that I was never able to find the dead tiger barb, even though I thoroughly cleaned the gravel while I moved my ornaments and plants, and checked the filters. Where is the missing/dead tiger barb?

As for the Tiger Barbs attaking I personally saw couple of my smaller Tiger Barbs attacking the Gourami or trying to. They were actually trying to attack the Gourami rather than nip his fins. Are the Tiger Barbs that aggressive?

Tiger Barbs are fin nippers and the dead one was probably eaten by the other ones

Although gouramis and tiger barbs are known to jump, I suspect that the behaviour you talk about suggests that yes, your barbs will have eaten the missing one and will have certainly attacked the gourami. Tiger barbs will go for any fish, and they love long-finned and slow moving fish.

Tiger barbs can be pretty nasty... I agree with the other solutions to the missing tiger. One of mine jumped out once.

I have tried to keep other fish with my tiger barbs, and they attack almost everything I put in there. The only thing I can put with them is otocinclus catfish. It wouldn't surprise me if they had done that to a peaceful fish like a dwarf gourami.

I've kept tiger barbs with a dwarf gourami for a few months and they seem to keep themselves as long as the gourami has plenty of plants to hide in
