no problem at all;
just be sure to keep a school of each (3-5) and they'll be fine.

Right now I am using a 20 Gal. In it I have 2 black ruby's, 2 reg. tigers, 2 albino, 2 checkerds and my clown pleco. It seems that my lager Checkered has a bit of an attitued. The funny thing is he is the second smallest fish in the tank. Every body else is getting along alright. The LFS had one more checkered. Would it be worth it to pick it up?

certainly.
Of course when your larger checkerd barb is a male, he will maintain his attitude. (Males are slightly darker colored and have distinctive black edges on their fins.)
Be sure that the one alt the LFS is a female (more yellowish fins and a paler body; even without a male present, you should be able to determine the sex.)
Here's a good picture; male below, female above.

Thanks for the info. I think I will swing by and pick up the last one if he is still there. For a doller and a half I guess I can really go wrong.

Very cool!! Right now I am only running with a 20 Gal. so I don't really have the room for that many fish. I have in it now: 3 Reg. Tigers, 2 Albinos, 2 Black Ruby's, and 2 Checkered Barbs. Everyone schools together exept the checkered barbs. they tend to hide under plants and stuff. Next year I will be putting them in a 40 Gal. with my Giant Danios, and Rainbows. I think I might get some more Rainbows too. I just learned about these fish this year and I wish I would have known about them sooner.

tigers and black rubys have similar size shape and markings, so they will school together. the checkered barbs also like to be in a group, do you have room for a couple more checkered? they will form their own little school as well

So I went back to the LFS to pick up a couple more Checkered Barbs and they had one left. The thing was he wasn't say quite swimming any more. I was kind of sad. I hate going into places and seeing dead fish.

keep looking. i keep those three barb species because they are my favorites. the checkered barbs are overlooked so often because nobody takes the time to take a closer look, they are actually awesome little fish. as they move you will notice the subtle greens , blues, and reds that will flash, and flicker in the light.
try this, put a purple light on the tank, they will light up and display colors that you hadnt noticed on them in the tank in the lfs. better in groups, the checkered are one of my favorite barbs, and i am a huge fan of barbs.
