To tell you whether you'd be able to fit a school of barbs in your tank, we need to know how many of each kind of fish you already have. If I were you, I'd first make sure I had at least six each of the neon tetras and the cories, to make them as happy as possible. They are both fish that need the company of others of their kind to be minimally stressed and happy. After you've taken care of that, if you haven't already, we could see whether the barbs would fit. A nice, non-orange barb is the gold barb. If you really want them, but don't have the room, just buy another tank if you can. ![]() EDIT: I know Babel, but they look yellow to me. ![]() Last edited by sirbooks at 01-Oct-2004 05:08 |

Barbs are schooling fish just like some of the others that you already haave. Unless the tank is well planted, and you're adding nitrAtes I really don't see how you could add more fish and let them actually be happy and healthy. ^_^ ![]() Last edited by Babelfish at 30-Sep-2004 17:08 ![]() |

Rosy barbs definitely wouldn't fit in your tank, maybe in another one. Albino and green tiger barbs aren't orange, but they are nippy fish. I can't think of any other non-orange barbs off the top of my head, except tinfoils... |

Take a look at the [link=profile]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/profile.asp?id=Puntius+titteya" style="COLOR: #FFFF99[/link] here to see some pics, or do a search online. And don't forget one pictures isn't representative of all fish ![]() [link=Checkered barbs]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/profile.asp?id=Puntius+oligolepis" style="COLOR: #FFFF99[/link] are another non-orange barb that can be kept in pairs. One of my favorites is the [link=belted barb]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/profile.asp?id=Puntius++pentazona" style="COLOR: #FFFF99[/link], which IME are definitely red. The profile recommends keeping at least three, but I've found them to be excellent schoolers and would personally recommend a larger group. Good luck ![]() Theresa_M attached this image: ![]() ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

You listed off 18 fish in there currently with 2 more going to be added soon. While the idea of 1 inch of fish per gallon is an archaic rule, in this case, you're looking at somewhere around 48" of full grown fish in a 29 gallon. I would cut down on the mollies since they prefer brackish water anyway... As for your water changes, you don't need to change any water that often (especially not more than approximately 10%). Instead, cut those back to once every other week and your tank will be perfectly fine after it cycles (which I'm guessing it hasn't done yet since the water's being changed so often)... ![]() PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread. |

All parbs are school or schoal fish, which will be seriously unhappy if you try to keep them in pairs. There is not a single barb species that lives in pairs or alone in the wild. 3 is an absolute minimum, but the best (and most natural) effect begins at 5 or 7. |
