If any one has any info about breding tigar barbs could you please help me out. I just got my 20 gal. going again after a bad kill of during Christmas break. I have 6 barbs in the tank right now. 1 albino tiger, 1 green, 2 regular, and 2 black rubys. I was also wondering if there is a posiblity for cross breding? Thanks!

Doug

Breeding can be stimulated by using higher water temperatures of about 25°C and a pH of 6.5. Condition female and male on a variety of live, frozen or freeze dried foods like brine shrimp. That should get then going

I believe that tiger barbs are visual schoolers, who should be in a group of at least 6 of their own kind.

I don't know how much luck you're going to have breeding all the different color varieties like you have now.

For breeding info, check out the profile for the Tiger Barb on this site...

Or possibly PM the resident Tiger Barb enthusiast, Fallout.

Good Luck.

Green and regular tigers will school together nicely, I have never had albinos though.

Just an update on my Barbs. The bigger of my two Ruby Barbs has taken control of my tank. He keeps all the others on one side. It doesn't appear to be causing any stress to the rest of the fish so I am not too worried about it. The wierd thing is he doesn't seem to be any bigger than the other fish. Just must have more attitude.

Also is there any type of plants that might be useful to have for their breeding?

What types of live food are good for Tiger barbs? Right now I am doing some frozen, flakes, and shrimp pellets.

I took a trip to the local bait shop the other day and picked up some spikes for my conficts. I tried them with the barbs and they seemed to like them. I had to cut them down but it all worked out.

Tubiflex worms that come in the compressed cubes. My Convicts have always devoured thoses like it was christmas morning. many LFSs stopped carrying them though. Of course my convicts have never turned their noses up at anything really. Just stay away from those stupid "Cichlid" pellets.

You would do better to put the mating pair in another tank until they breed and remove them after. This is because as soon as they breed, they will most likely eat the eggs, and if they don't the others will make a snack of them. My barbs go on a feeding frenzy when two breed.
