Brown Knifefish? | |
So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | Hi All, yesterday while on a browse of the pet stores, I saw an African Brown Knifefish (well a tank full anyway), that looked in extremely good health, and were bright and colourful and saucy in attitude despite having no caves/pipes to hide in. They were a great price too. What Im wondering is this - the tag said they grow to about 12 inches. Is this true? I have done some internet research - and the sites seem to agree, 8-12 inches is the average size. Would this fish be suitable in my 75g community? I have peaceful fish - discus, angels, keyholes, tetras, danios, loaches, corys etc. Would it grow to be too big for a standard 4 foot long 75g tank? The smallest fish in the tank is rummynose tetra, a single pristella, and zebra/pearl danios. Would these be at risk? Any thoughts, info, advice greatly accepted and welcomed! Thanks! Never really saw much of him since he pretty much hid all the time inside a log I had. From the little bit I did see of him, I would guess he got somewhere around 10 inches. He never bothered full grown cories, but he did make a nice snack of about 8 young tetras (dont remember what kind) over one weekend. I would say as long as you dont have any fish that will fit into its mouth, it should make a peaceful addition. ~ Mae West |
