Fist I will say these are mighty clean little fish. My tank they are in is so amazing clean. It just looks so pure and crystal clear. So proud of it. Anyway, I guess one reason it is so clean is that they hardly eat and dont seem hungry at all. I first tried them on flakes then went to frozen blood worms. They dont even seem to see the food, care that it there or even seem distracted by it. I finally saw them eat about 4 bites in all, between all four fish, last night. I always have to net out 3/4 of the left over food. One of the females is so fat and bigger than the others and she will swim right up to wher I am like she is looking at me and it is almost like its in 3D. One of the males swam by her last night after taking a bite and it was like he said, "Hey, theres food over here!". She turned and followed him, not chased and went to where I had dropped the food. I guess next time I am in town I will look for the Hikari micro pellets like someone suggested. These are just the most, hmm...I dont know. I think I like them better than any fish Ive ever had! They are just adorable! My substate is brown which really helps them hide even when sitting right on top of it. How do you know when they are ready to mate? Doesnt the female get fat? Can they mate w four of them in the tank or does there have to just be two? I want to find out what I can about that for the future. Anyway, anyone wanting some wonderful, fun, pretty fish, need to get some Cherries!

I agree I love my little cherry barbs.....they're little faces are sooooo cute. I have 6 in my 30 gallon tank and they are awesome to watch. The mating behavior is interesting. The male cherry barb turns a very bright red....ever redder than he already is, and flares out all his fins and does a little dance for the female. He also chases her around the tank. At first it looks aggressive until you realize the she is egging him on. Mine kind of squirm around together in the plants too. I don't think I will have a successful spawn as my water is very hard, they prefer softer water for spawing, but it sure is fun to watch.
