Can anyone advise me on cherry barbs, i have 2 males and 3 females in a 15g tank, all are very young.
the advise i find from reading about them all seems to suggest that they wont be happy and should only be kept in pairs.
can someone please advise me if they have had any experience in keeping them in groups.
thanks

They're pretty standard to be kept in pairs, so I have never heard any type of evidence as to what happened when someone kept them in a group. Most fish that are such way don't work in groups because males will pick on other males and females will pick on other females. Breeding pairs are normally recommended to prevent any violence from occurring...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Like Theresa, I have two pairs and they get on just fine. There's a certain amount of chasing that goes on: male chases male, males are always chasing females, but no problem. It's actually fun to watch the males compete with each other, showing off their fins and colours.

well i will keep an eye on them as they grow, if they get on ok they can all stay in the 15g, but i will allow space for them in the 70g in case i need to move some of them. might even move them all to the 70 to give them plenty of space and put some tetras in the 15

I have found that if you have plenty of hiding spaces they should be fine.

Don't worry 'bout a thing.
You've got the perfect combination of males and females.
No matter what people say, barbs are school fish, period.
Keeping barbs in couples will do them no good. Always keep 5 or more barbs of any kind.

About the chasing; hey, they're barbs! Barbs chase and play! Even very docile barbs like cherries occasionally like to "get wild".

Just keept things the way they are and everything will be just fine.

I don't think you'll have any problems with Cherry Barbs. It's very normal to chase each other & they are on the peaceful side of the Barbs.
