Hey folks,

After over two years my danios have slowly begun to die off. I originally had 10 of them in my community tank, and I am now down to 7 with 2 of them looking the worse for wear. I really can't beleive how long these fish lasted, as I basically used these guys to cycle several tanks and I seemed to have made almost every beginner mistake you could with them. They are tough little fish.

My question is, what will happen with the remaining ones, once most of their buddies are gone? Will they start chasing my other peaceful fish (rummies, rasboras, and black neons) around the tank? What will their temperment be?

Danios feel much safer and happier when they are schooling and if there happens to be not enough of their own kind in the tank they may start to pick at other fish in the tank just simply trying to get them to school with them. So, I would simply suggest that if enough happen to die off that you simply add some more in order to keep the school up to the right number of fish in order that they don't bother the other fish.

If your danios are dying of old age, then the survivors probably won't be very strong themselves, and possibly wouldn't be antagonistic to others.
If they are already acting a little sluggish, I'd be more concerned about them.

2 of them aren't looking too good. But they still feed and are active so I think they'll still be around for at least a little while yet.

The thing is, I don't plan on replacing the danios. So if they do start harassing the other fish alot, I guess I'll just move them to my strebai tank. Danios don't seem to bother too much with cories.

I don't know why I didn't think to ask this earlier. But do you have any other schooling fish in your tank in which the danios can possibly tank up and school with? As I know in my 55 gallon my giant danios and australian rainbows school together.

In this tank there is also 15 rummy nose tetras, 10 h rasboras, and 12 black neons. Other tank mates are 10 cories (emerald/bronze), 1 otto, and 1 BN. BTW, it's 75 gallon.
